Wedding Rings and Penis Gourds

Good week.

Work is surprisingly/confusingly all back to normal… little sign of the chaos we seemed to be in just days ago, now forging ahead with the plans and focus we’d been building out of lack of anything to do but wait. It still all seems too good to be true, but the legalities of it all seem to solidify things. Strange.

Early in the week we watched The Weather Underground at Metro Cinema. The Weather Underground is a documentary about the radical movement in the US during the time of the Vietnam War. Highly recommended. Playing at an independent theatre near you.

Last night we caught yet another stroke of independent brilliance, only this time from filmmakers a little closer to home. From the reels of Madzu Productions, we were entertained with Wah! pigs, police, and penis gourds which was playing at the Provincial Museum. This production chronicles the 5 tumultuous weeks that two local boys spent traveling off of the beaten path in West Papua, on the island of New Guinea. The night was made all the better by the stories and commentary by Matthew and Andrew in (at times almost only…) the flesh. Edmonton screening is over, but these two are coming to Vancouver (Feb 17 & 19) for those of you down there who I know read this… definitely worth checking out.

In domestic life, organic veggies are still a good thing. I think Reilly just loves having regular new photography subjects delivered to the door.

And finally on the business front, this week we produced the best damn looking brochure for wedding photography services that this little town has ever seen.

At 5 1/2″ square and with eight pages to educate, the crisp, thick, smooth matte paper all works to promote us as a simple, professional, and unique photography vendor. Now, the problem comes in the fact that while we can reproduce the text online, it’s just really not the same as holding this baby in your hand, so picture these on thick, smooth, crisp paper at 5 1/2″ square, OK? It’s laid out how it would look if you flipped through it. Files are large for those of you on dialup. Heh.. and my wedding band looks better on the cover than it does on my finger.

Similar brochures are being worked now for the rest of our services, the wedding one was a requirement as Reilly met with another potential client earlier this week and we needed to wow her. I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that one.
