Shame on you, Ikea. Let me unsub!
Little is more aggravating than spam. Unless, of course, you self selected into the spam - and now can’t self select out.
See, at some point I signed up for the Ikea newsletter. I don’t know if it was in Edmonton, when we lived down the block, if it was in store, or if it was while living here. It could have been 3 postal codes ago. I also have no idea if, when I did sign up, I provided real values for my postal code or if I just randomly filled the boxes like I (and many others) often do out of laziness and frustration at the amount of info I apparently need to give just to get regular updates on what I should buy and how much money I should spend with this company.
Regardless, I’m in and Ikea won’t let me leave.
Ooh - update. Apparently this won’t-let-me-go wisdom is the brainchild of Komunic - www.konversation.com - a Canadian based company, self proclaimed leaders in permission-based email marketing. I was ready to blame a poorly home-spun Ikea system, but this out of a dedicated service? Come on people. Making it hard to unsubscribe just makes your customers angry, not more loyal! Get with the program. You don’t have my permission anymore.

Hey Miranda!
Just reading your new blog — great URL by the by — and saw this post. Since it’s the web you’re having issues with, it’s something I can contribute to - unlike anything photography related.
Anyhow, something you might want to check out is http://safersignup.com. Basically they give you a mail alias that you can use, by prefixing some meaningful ID to the front of. For this comment post, for instance, I used sassycontessa.eddieparker@safersignup.com. They then redirect that e-mail to my ‘protected’ e-mail.
The great thing is, say you started spamming me and wouldn’t let me unsubscribe — I just go to http://safersignup.com, and put this mail alias on a ‘blocked’ list, and voila - the e-mail never gets to my door.
This way your shiny perfect e-mail address never gets excess spam, and you can shut spam down before it gets anywhere near your account.
Hope that helps.

Haha, thanks for the feedback
See, I know there are all sorts of ways to avoid spam - that part is easy. It’s the fact that Ikea - a large, otherwise-to-me-well-respected-company - is causing it and making it hard to leave that’s the surprise, and annoyance!
I actually have all of my mail filtered through gmail for the excellent spam filtering, and because I can also setup rules there similar to your setup I can stop whatever I want from ever getting to me.
The spam itself isn’t the issue, just the principal
