Waking up today is both exciting – Obama won! – and extremely disheartening – roughly half of California voted for Proposition 8. It’s hard to be elated when you’re sick to your stomach.

For anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about, despite California’s supreme court ruling that denying gay marriage is unconstitutional earlier this year, propositon 8 was added to yesterday’s ballot to change the constitution, making it once again illegal for two people of the same sex to marry. As of this morning, it’s looking very close, but that those in favour of the ban won. I feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach.
