4/4 Surgeons
Agree I am very broken
Never seen a knee like it!
Uh, he’s the resident of the ultra specialist and gets to see broken knees from far and wide. My broken knee has earned me an appointment with the actual ultra knee specialist (not to be confused with the regular knee specialist who had no idea what to do with my knee back in september), much ahead of the 3 months to 3 years timeframe I was given by his office a couple weeks ago. He’s a busy man, but, it would seem, I warrant being moved to the top of the list so he can see it for himself and try to make a decision about how to approach surgery. The resident just scratched his head, but was noticeably excited about getting to work on a complicated case
I go back next Thursday and will officially be on the surgery wait list at that point, the only reason I’m not on it now is that he’s not sure if it will be day surgery or longer because he wasn’t sure how they were going to go about repairing all 4 - yes, all of them - of the ligaments in my knee.
Oh yes - you heard that right.
Anatomy 101 - your knee is held together with 4 main ligaments. Your MCL is on the inside of the knee and prevents your knee from buckling inwards, your LCL is on the outside of the knee and prevents your knee from buckling outwards, your ACL holds your tibia to your femur and prevents your tibia from coming forwards, and your PCL also holds your tibia to your femur and prevents your tibia from going backwards.
In my trip on the beach, I managed to destroy all 4 ligaments.
This is basically an unheard of situation, hence the head scratching. The surgeon was surprised I could walk, but I can thanks to my ultra fancy custom knee brace. All good fun.
I’ll see the knee surgeon god next Thursday and should have an idea of what the surgery plan is from there. Normal wait to surgery is a few months, but I’m hoping that with the cancellation list I’ll get in sooner rather than later - fingers crossed.
It’s all a little crazy but entertains me and I am happy to have people agree that I am indeed very broken, so all is good.
On one hand I’m glad to hear that you’re being pushed to the top of the list but on the other hand it totally sucks that your knee is that messed up.

I’m glad things are finally moving forward!
Your injury is indeed intriguing and you should be proud you managed to hurt yourself so extensively. I mean, you beat me by 3 ligaments.

Okay, I think you should be on a show that showcases strange phenomena from around the world! Dudes who play rough and tumble sports for a living (like football, hockey, car racing) don’t get injuries like this. Was there at least alcohol involved or simply a wayward tumble on the sand? Maybe they can give you a bionic knee, although not sure how that would help you unless you plan to be a kicker for the BC Lions. You would make a ton of money, though :-0
