And the verdict is… Polapremium rumours finally revealed…

After all of the polapremium waiting and the polapremium rumours, the countdown finally hit zero a few minutes ago

For those not in the know, Polaroid stopped production some time ago on the last of their films, including most recently the type 600 instant film most people think of when they think of polaroid (although, compared to the pack films and time zero, definitely not the coolest of the bunch)

Lots of people have been begging for Polaroid not to do it or to make it so someone else could pick up the slack but loopholes upon loopholes and patents and grumpy chemical engineers and execs in jail and  expensive equipment and yada yada, it wasn’t sounding promising.

Until…

Well, the page is live, and to me at least it hasn’t done what we needed it to do.

You can hit up the site here for all the details… essentially they’ve got a large stockpile of expired films of all types, last production run stuff, and even some cool sounding new time zero manipulateable film (that was one of the first films to go a few years ago and expired stocks have long run out for most people).

As expected everything is a touch pricey, but that’s what you get for this kind of thing.

So, while it’s nice to know there is a place to get some of this stuff for a while anyways, the whole thing to me was a bit of a setup. What any of us really wanted to hear was that *something* *anything* was going into new production… meaning that the film would be secured long into the future. That, at least so far, hasn’t happened. Heck, I still have expired 84 and 87 in my fridge that I’m still shooting, and those films aren’t even represented here.

The rumour mill keeps talking about what *might* still be coming, but with no confirmation and a huge setup and let down today, I’m no longer holding my breath

  1. Yup, what a let down. It’s so dissapointing. Alot the stock has depleted already and it’s only been open for hours. Chocco and Image is sold out already. And the prices have gone up alot on products that were available through the same company yesterday.

Just like a crap hollywood movie, this was hyped up too much. I’m guessing, it’s just a way to off load the money they invested in a business called ‘unsaleable’. The name obviously proved too much to sell the last of what they had invested.

It’s really infuriating that they touted it as ‘the future’, when already stocks have depleted so much that it may as well be the past.
